Disconnections

There are three main types of disconnection:

 a) Supplier or customer requested for service alterations etc.

The work involves isolation of the gas supply to a premise by use of the ECV and sealing in the “off” position, and by removal or capping of the meter installation.

We manage the close co-ordination of site visits with the customer and the customer’s representatives as well as EAL’s meter installation partners, all of which are Ofgem Accredited Meter Installers (OAMI’s). Any removed meter will normally be taken from the site, unless there are physical constraints preventing this. The gas supplier is again central to the completion of metering works and data exchanges between Supplier, Shipper and xoserve.

Removal of downstream pipework can be undertaken by prior arrangement

 b)  Supplier requested due to debt.

This is essentially the same as a) above except that this requires a court order to gain access to the meter and can involve confrontation with the gas user.  In extreme circumstances, where access to the meter cannot be obtained, disconnection may be achieved by capping the incoming pipework upstream of the meter. As before the gas supplier’s involvement is key to the successful completion of these works.

 c) Supplier or customer requested due to demolition of the site.

This work is the same as for a) above, except that for sites being demolished the work may also involve the removal of the gas connecting pipework, and capping back to the site boundary or the street main. In addition customer pipework requires purging prior to removal in advance or during demolition. As before the gas supplier’s involvement is key to the successful completion of these works.
