Metering and AMR FAQs
FAq's on metering and amr requirements

Who is Energy Assets?

Energy Assets is the leading independent metering and siteworks provider in UK. They undertake the installation and replacement of meters, gas connections and a wide range of metering works and most importantly they are a registered MAM (Meter Asset Manger). Energy Assets owns Pulse 24, the AMR service provider.

Who is Pulse 24 ?

Pulse 24 is a market leader in the provision of gas AMR services, but has established that a key factor to encourage the deployment of AMR is being able to efficiently replace meters.   Pulse 24 was acquired by Energy Assets to combine the expertise of both companies thereby enabling the provision of a uniquely joined up AMR service to customers and for siteworks eliminating inefficient communication elements in the service provision chain.

What do I have to do the get AMR installed?

Contact Pulse 24 with details of your gas meter portfolio and a quotation will be provided for the provision of AMR on the portfolio.

Will my meters gas need replacing?

For the effective provision of data from gas meters they need to generate a pulse, which can be measured by the AMR device. Unfortunately many meters will not provide this pulse and will need to be replaced before AMR devices can be installed. It is therefore very likely that may meters will require replacement, which, depending on your gas supplier, may involve additional costs. Where the meter does generate a pulse the AMR device can normally be fitted without replacement of the meter. However, as Energy Assets is a registered Meter Asset Manager it may be possible, without the need for additional costs, to replace all meters to ensure they have a reliable pulse output necessary for AMR provision and also to bring metering installations up to modern standards and ensure continued operation of the pulse.

You will need to discuss this option with Pulse 24.

When will I start seeing the AMR data from my meters?

After AMR units have been installed, the data flowing will be validated and shortly after will be available on the Pulse 24 website. This is likely to be within a week of installation of the AMR unit.

How long will it take to install AMR on all my meters?

This will be done as quickly as possible but may take many weeks to complete and it may not be possible to have AMR on every meter due to physical constraints or lack of GSM signal. Pulse 24 will however be using all reasonable endeavors to install AMR units on all meters. Each customer will be contacted at the commencement of works to agree an installation schedule, ensure site contact and access information is readily available and that any special site conditions are taken into consideration during the planning process.

Will the AMR data be used for billing by my gas Supplier?

All AMR data collected is collected in industry standard format and can be automatically sent to your gas supplier to be used for billing purposes. However you will need to check with your gas supplier that they are able to invoice you using this data.

Will the Pulse 24 AMR solution meet the requirements for CRC early action merit?

Yes, the Pulse 24 AMR solution meets the requirements of the CRC early action plan.

What happens if my meter is non standard and needs replacing?

If the metering installation is non standard, for example on a medium or high pressure supply, it may be surveyed and an assessment made as to the best option for replacing the meter. This may involve additional costs, which will be quoted to the customer for a decision as to whether they wish the work to be undertaken. It may also involve works by other parties i.e. the network owner, which will be coordinated on your behalf by EAL.

How will I access my AMR data?

AMR data will be accessed via the Pulse 24 website.

What happens if I want to change gas supplier?

If you wish to change gas supplier you should let your new gas supplier know that you have AMR installed and confirm that they have no problem in using the data for invoicing you.

There are no restrictions on your freedom to change supplier.

How will I obtain quotations and order siteworks?
